Telegram storage usage

Telegram is a cloud-based messaging app that allows you to send messages, photos, and videos to friends. You can also create groups or channels and broadcast your message to everyone who follows them. Telegram uses end-to-end encryption, which means that no one can read your messages except the people in the group or channel with whom you are communicating. It’s free, secure, and easy to use!

Telegram stores three types of messages:

Telegram(Telegram中文版) has three types of messages:

-Media and files, which are not stored in the cloud. They will be deleted after 48 hours unless you use the Cloud Chats feature.

-Cloud chats, which are stored for some time on Telegram’s servers.

-Local chats, cloud chats, and temporary media also expire after certain periods (by default 1 week).

Please note that if Telegram has to restore your chat because of a technical issue or a crash, the messages will not be deleted.

Media and files

When you send media or files, they are stored on your device. You can delete them at any time.

When you send media, it will be deleted after a certain period. This feature is called “Media and File Deletion.” If you want to keep it for longer, save it elsewhere before sending it!

Files sent via Telegram also have a limited lifespan: they’ll be deleted from the recipient’s phone after 7 days unless you move them somewhere else first (for example, by saving them in cloud storage).

Cloud chats

Cloud chats are stored on Telegram servers and can be accessed from any device. These chats are encrypted, so you can safely share any type of content with them.

Cloud chats are synced across all devices that belong to your account, including mobile phones and tablets (iOS, Android), Windows desktops and laptops, Linux computers, Macs, and even some smart TVs.

You can delete cloud chats at any time by the sender or recipient.

Local chat, cloud chat, and temporary media

You can use the following expiration options to store data and files temporarily:

Local chats, cloud chats, and temporary media will automatically expire after certain periods.

You can restore expired local and cloud messages using the Restore button in the chat list.

If you want to keep your expired data for longer, you can enter Storage Settings in any chat window, click on More Options at the bottom of this page, then choose how long you want your media files to stay on Telegram servers (Note: This setting applies only to photos/videos that were sent from a phone – if someone sent them from another device or downloaded them from someone else’s profile).

You can manage your storage use in Telegram with the help of these tools

Telegram (tg下载)has tools to help you manage your storage usage. If you’re having trouble with the amount of storage Telegram is using, make sure to try the following steps:

Open Settings > Privacy and Security > Chats.

Tap Clear Cache > Clear Cache & Data. This will clear all the data stored on your device and reset some settings that may be causing problems.

Go back to Settings > Privacy and Security > Chats, tap Clear History (or Clear Media & Files), then tap Yes in the confirmation dialog box that appears. This will remove any messages or media from your chat history or cloud chats—but not local (device) ones!
